Larry
Years of experience: 45. Year started at Sturdivant: 1969. Even though he is not on the payroll (well, he does get a check—he is the landlord) how could we leave him out? After all he is the founder of what is now Sturdivant's Tire & Auto, Inc. and is on the board of directors. His quality of work and customer satisfaction is what this company is based on. Larry is still around if we need advice or have a problem that only a man of his "old age" (experience) can handle. Larry, alone with his son Darian and grandson Justin, now own and operate D&L Farms. So if you need beef, pork, or home grown strawberries, give them a call at (919) 923-5699.
Terry
President
Started in 1987. Years of experience: 30. Terry wears many hats and holds many titles at Sturdivant's. Examples are "errand boy," "janitor," "check writer" (very important on payday), and a few we will not mention. On the serious side, Terry has been in the tire and automotive repair business since the early 1970s working with his uncle Larry, changing tires and oil, and performing front end repairs. After working on cars for not only his uncle but also Chapel Hill Tire, Terry decided his "talents" were working with customers and sales. After working for several other companies including Paces Tire, Rigsbee Tire, Chapel Hill Tire, and as a store manager for Merchant's Tire in Hillsborough, Terry took over his uncle's business in 1987 and the rest is history. By maintaining the high standards his uncle started, the company has now grown into a major player in the tire and automotive repair business in the Chapel Hill area. At one point in his career he hoped to own several tire stores, but now has decided that owning 1 and doing it correctly by assembling a great team of employees and keeping his hands on the business is what best suits him. As they say, money isn't everything; it's enjoying what you do for a living that matters most!
Danny
Store Manager
Started in 2002. 20 years experience. Danny is well...Danny! In all seriousness, Danny is a very valuable asset to our team here at Sturdivant's. Along with being the store manager, he is also the front line go-to man when it comes to waiting on our customers. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to recommendations for your vehicle's recommended services and repairs. Having worked as a technician and getting hands-on experience working in the industry from the ground up is a big asset. He has also received extensive training at Michelin's Training School in Greenville, SC, and, along with other training, he is one of the most knowledgeable tire men in the business. If he's not convinced the tire will do its job, he's not going to recommend it. His humor and wit also keeps the customers laughing and having a great experience with their every visit. He is the _____ of the Laurel and Hardy team - guess which one when you call Sturdivant's and hear that big voice.
Howard
Service Manager
23 years of experience. Started in 1987. Howard is an ASE certified technician. After adding onto our staff, he has now moved into a new role here at Sturdivant's: service manager. His responsibilities include helping diagnose vehicle problems, checking over vehicles, helping with estimates, ordering parts, making sure the shop runs smoothly, etc. Howard, along with Terry, took over the business from Terry's uncle in 1987. Terry has always said the reason he chose Howard is because he had the "biggest tool box with the most tools." Howard is also vice president of the corporation.
Kenny
State Inspector/Tire & Oil Technician
15 years of experience. Started in 2001. Kenny is about as steady as they come. As one of the first people at work in the morning to help with the opening duties, and one of the last ones to leave at the end of the day, Kenny is also a NC state inspector as well as a thorough "check over man." When it comes to a customer wanting to have a pre-purchase checkover before buying a used car, we put the keys in Kenny's hands. He also is a quality tire and oil technician and makes a pretty good secretary when needed to help answer the phone. (Can you imagine him in a dress? That's a scary thought!)
Jeremy
State Inspector/Tire & Oil Technician
9 years of experience. Started in 2003. Known as "Captain Talbert," Jeremy is our go-to man when it comes to high performance tires and wheels, and also vibration problems. With his keen eye and expertise, Jeremy has been able to solve ride problems on vehicles when others have failed. Jeremy is very experienced in mounting and balancing custom wheels and if your vehicle has the new tire pressure monitoring system, he's got your back on that one, too. He is also a certified NC state inspector and a reliable oil change technician. Jeremy is a man of few words with a dry sense of humor. As he says, "I don't get paid to talk."
Steve
Technician
18 years experience. Started in 2007. Steve is the newest member to join our staff. After considering several applicants, we knew Steve was both the right fit for our team and we were the right fit for him. Steve comes to us with years of experience in the auto repair business. His specialties include driveability problems (check engine lights), electrical, brakes, timing belts, transmission and drivetrain, and many other areas pertaining to your vehicle. If we were out fishing for a technician, Steve would definitely be "a keeper." Mount him and hang him on the wall—he's here to stay!
Shawn
Technician
6 years of experience. Started in 2001. Shawn started off with us as an oil change and tire technician, getting his experience on the playing field. He has now moved into the auto repair field. His hands-on experience (working with guidance from Howard and Chris) has made him a rising star. His specialties include maintenance (fluid flushes, belts, hoses, etc.), brakes, and alignments. Shawn has also received training at Hunter's Alignment Training Center, and has received an Advanced Alignment Technician certificate. Shawn is definitely a comedian, always keeping something going on in the shop. As we always tell him, if he could get paid for his "mouth" he would be a millionaire!
Octavio
Tire and Oil Technician
2 years experience. Started in 2007. Known as "Tabo" to the guys in the shop, Octavio has quickly earned the respect of his co-workers as a man ready and willing to tackle any task. Tabo is not only a hard worker, but he is also very thorough and careful when it comes to working on a customer's car. We would not hesitate to give him the keys to work on any car, even if it's a $100k sports car, as we have that much confidence in his abilities. Tabo also acts as an interpreter for our Spanish speaking clientele. With his sense of humor we just hope he's not making fun of us in the process!
You
You are the most important team member here at Sturdivant's Tire & Auto. Whether you are a lifelong customer or a first timer, without you we would not even exist. You can be assured when you do business with us your vehicle is in good hands. We back up our service with a local in-house 18 month, 18 thousand mile warranty along with a nationwide 12 month, 12 thousand mile warranty through NAPA AutoCare Centers. If you ever have a problem with anything we do, just pick up the phone and give us a call—it's that simple. In the almost 40 years of doing business we have never had a complaint lodged against us with the Better Business Bureau, small claims court, or any other agency. Are we perfect? No. We just simply take care of our customers, along with employing the best team in the industry! So if you've never been here before, come and see what you have been missing!
